…and why we fight. In our difference we find strength for the complexity of our common mission.
Helena Carvalho (Principal Researcher): I am Helena, a researcher interested in all things we share as human beings. I have been studying contexts that lead us to exclusion, illness, and deviation, and in all of them, I find inequality and social injustice.
Paula Mena Matos (CoPI): Relationships are at the heart of human development and adaptation. As a professor and researcher at U.Porto, I am particularly interested in various relational contexts and dynamics, as well as emotion regulation strategies individuals use facing challenging transitions, whether in adversity or in thriving. My name is Paula.
Filipa Nunes: I am Filipa, a young researcher concerned with developmental issues, considering the different life contexts of young people, their relational dynamics, and aspects related to their mental health.
Isabel Narciso: I’m Isabel Narciso, a lecturer and researcher at FPUL and a family therapist… for basically 40 years!!!!! In Family Psychology and Family Intervention, I am particularly interested in the study of (and intervention with) people and families in situations of high stress, risk and danger, particularly adversities associated with contexts of economic and social disadvantage.
Joana Cadima: I’m Joana and I study how teachers and early childhood educators can support children to grow and develop. I also work with schools in order to address situations of social and socioeconomic inequality and provide the best opportunities to all children.
Paulo Delgado: As a researcher, I never solved any mysteries or problems. But I have been able to ask better questions. How and why does the researcher ask? Precisely to ask better questions. This is the incentive to take part in this project on child poverty in Portugal, to learn and share, to be able to ask questions systematically and more accurately. Why ask? Because in questions, when asked well, there are always hidden clues that can help find the answers.
Tiago Ferreira: I’m Tiago and I study socio-emotional development in childhood. I’ve been exploring how connections with mothers, fathers and educators influence fundamental skills such as self-regulation, emotional regulation and pro-social behavior. I believe in science as a powerful tool to promote a more positive human development and a more inclusive and citizen childhood.
Ana Sofia Guichard: I’m Sofia and I study how children develop and learn. I enjoy asking questions and listening to children about topics such as poverty and cultural diversity, and collaborating with their teachers to create more fun, fair and inclusive schools.
Carolina Guedes: My name is Carolina and I’ve been trying to better understand how children develop. I have learned a lot through observing children in their daily lives, for example while they play with their friends at nursery or kindergarten. Furthermore, monitoring educational contexts and understanding what makes them quality contexts has been a very rewarding aspect of my work.
Ana Lídia Pereira: Hello, I’m Lídia! Ever since I was little, I’ve been curious about everything that makes up our existence. I’m the artist who dreams of giving stage to different stories and the young educator and researcher who believes that it’s possible to do more and better through poetry, science and education.
Catarina Gomes: I’m Catarina, a young researcher and professional trainee in Psychology. Art and science have fascinated me from an early age, so I’m currently challenging myself with research and intervention in social control, deviant behavior and groups in a vulnerable situations.
